New President of OntWIG 2012-2014

Please join me in welcoming Karen Laforet as our new President of the Ontario Woundcare Interest Group for a two year term. As I transition from President to Past President, I cannot think of a more suitable candidate to fill this position.

Karen Laforet has functioned as a clinical resource in vascular access, critical care and wound care, as well as product specialist and marketing manager.  Currently she is the Director Clinical Services for Calea Homecare located in Mississauga, Ontario.  

She has extensive professional and community board training and experience: completion of parliamentary process course, Intermediate program “On-Board” Board of Director training program from Canadian Board Diversity Council (CBDC), and a Diploma in Non-Profit Management. She was a founding member of the Sea Coast Chapter of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the London Regional Chapter of the Canadian Association of Critical Care Nurses as well as National President of Canadian Association of Critical Care Nurses.

She has played a role in the development of best practice guidelines, published in peer-review journals and has been active in the wound care community for over 15 years.  Her  educational background includes, Registered Nurse, BA—Anthropology & Women’s Studies, Adult Education program, International Interprofessional Wound Care Certification, Doctor of Homeopathy, and a Masters of Clinical Health Science—Wound Healing.   

It has been an honour to serve as the inaugural President of the first interdisciplinary provincial wound care interest group for Ontario..

I would like to thank the founding executive and current members of the executive for their invaluable contributions. 

Our fall symposium has been moved to April, 2013. This is to allow the new executive meet and set goals for next 2-3 years. One of the top priorities will be effectively communicate the Ontario Woundcare Interest Group Provincial Wound Care Strategy document with key stakeholders and with the Ontario Ministry of Health.

Please stay tuned for our news letter and information about our Webinar on September 28 as we launch the Wound Care Strategy Document to our members for feedback.We will also introduce our newest members of the executive of the Ontario Woundcare Interest Group.
